i don’t understand why everyone’s saying big bang’s amazing for winning the EMA. does it even mean anything? it’s a stupid award. no one at the award show even knew who they were except fans. it was just VIPs voting 100s of times.. 58million votes does not equal 58 million fans.
You don’t understand? Do you not remember the shit that Daesung and GD went through before the award show? Did you not hear about them getting threats, being called a “murderer” or “drug addict”, telling them to kill themselves?
The win was amazing because it signified that things would get better and that the fans would be there to support them. Big Bang had just came back after a 2 year Korean break and were expecting big things out of 2011. That was cut short with the accident and scandal. That EMA win was a light in a world of dark that surrounded them and VIPs.
Of course, no one knew them at the award show but they do now and they know something about kpop. The award maybe “stupid” to you and others, but Big Bang was recognized as up and coming artists that the world will continue to hear about. With that award win, the US and more of Europe are getting to know Kpop and its artist. SNSD is appearing on US talk shows, Wonder Girls have a tv movie that’s premiering, international producers are working with your oppas and unnies and telling other artists about them. It’s word of mouth that is getting them recognized and Big Bang’s win at the EMA shows that kpop is spreading.
It might have been VIPs voting over and over but that was because we wanted Big Bang to know that we are here for them and that in that time of need with Daesung and GD beind away, VIPs were shining for them.
You might not understand why that win was amazing but as a VIP, I can tell you the second I saw Daesung’s smile live on that stage, I started crying. That made me happy to know that this win meant something to them.
